First of all we are using it programatically and changing the baud rate:
"F5S7=120P" // pulse and 2400
"F8S7=120T" // tone and 9600
etc..
When we realized the new modems were not changing baud rates with a palm
pilot dialing into a server monitoring the transmission, (they were always
sending at 28800)we tried using preferences Speed as well as putting in
initialization strings the Init String in prefs. The modems acted the same,
no baud rate change.
We tried this with several old modems (that have worked all along) and
several new modems, none worked.
The old ones are gray and say 3Com on them, the new ones are black and say
Palm on them.
So in answer to your question, we are trying to change the baud rate on the
modem via the palm.
To sum up:
Programatically or using the palm prefs these modems do not change baud
rates.

I don't know about the problem but my advice would be to explain
exactly what you did and how you tested if you want help.
Most "Hayes" modems use the initial "AT" to establish the baud rate.
Some may need more than one or only work well out of reset.
How are you trying to change the baud rate? On the modem, palm, or both?
