Howdy -- I've got a user who's trying to network hotsync his brand new Visor Deluxe, and no matter what we do to it, we cannot get his local PC's HotSync Manager to recognize that a *network*, not local, sync has been requested. His Visor is running PalmOS 3.1H3. His Visor's HotSync app clearly understands network hotsyncing because it has the usual menu items for "LANSync Prefs" and "Primary PC Setup". The Visor's cradle is serially cabled to the local PC. His local PC has Palm Desktop 3.0.2 installed (right out of the Visor box). He can sync locally just fine, but when he changes LANSync Prefs from Local to Network and enters the DNS name, IP address, and subnet mask of the remote PC (also running HotSync Manager which many other users are able to network sync against) into Primary PC Setup, then initiates a local sync, the local HotSync Manager simply runs a local sync. It never says "Forwarding to ". Furthermore, when it's finished doing the local sync, the Primary PC Setup parameters on the Visor have reverted to the name and address of the *local* PC! And, about 50% of the time, after the sync is finished, HotSync Manager has re-checked the (formerly unchecked) box besides the user's name in the Setup, Network dialogbox. We tried uninstalling Palm Desktop, rebooting, and re-installing, but it made no difference. We also checked that the remote PC is reachable from the local PC, and a ping works fine. And, yes, we absolutely confirmed that HotSync Manager is actively running on the remote PC. As I said, other users are network-syncing against this remote PC without any problem. Anybody have any ideas about what's preventing HotSync Manager on this local PC from recognizing and forwarding a network hotsync request from the handheld? I can't even tell whether this is a software problem on the Visor or a software problem on the desktop? Is there something about how Handspring tweaked PalmOS for the Visor that prevents it from doing a netsync? Did Handspring tweak HotSync Manager to prevent it from doing a netsync? Is there some magic registry entry that I should be checking? I spent an hour scanning the palmos.com knowledge base and couldn't find anything that helped.
