I've been talking to MetroWerks about r7 here at PalmSource, and I'm
seriously not impressed. And that's beyond the fact that they have a bunch
of lame excuses as to why it's delayed and not available for sale yet, and
why there's a back order already if you want to order a copy...
Anyway... I went to talk to them last night to find out what this new
release was - I was hoping for auto completing, a back button for traversing
code, and loads of cool stuff to warrant a whole version number increase. I
didn't get that...
They explained how they've made it more stable, removed compiler bugs, moved
to the 4.1 IDE, got rid of the BDWM stuff... Hmmm... "doesn't justify a new
version number really" I though... So I asked them what warranted the jump
to r7 rather than being 6.1 - they couldn't give me an answer...
Basically it seems like they want us to pay a few hundred bucks for some bug
fixes!!! So... we have to pay 'cause their previous version sucked ass??? As
I said... I'm not impressed at all...
It's probably worth mentioning that you don't need r7 to run the PalmOS 4.0
SDK (*) - the 4.0 SDK works fine under r6.
(*) - in fact it doesn't come with the 4.0 SDK, it comes with the 3.5 SDK
(which they were proud to tell me - whoop.... congratulations you're only 1
release behind now...)
Cheers
