Howdy --
I've just wasted two hours figuring out that when beaming a category
from the address book on one Palm to the address book on another Palm,
the receiving Palm unconditionally files the received addresses in the
Unfiled category. There appears to be no way to have the received
addresses automatically filed in the category they were in on the
sending Palm, regardless of whether or not the category already existed
on the receiving Palm before the beam, and regardless of whether or not
the receiving Palm was open (at the time of the beam) to the address
book in the All category or the specific target category.
This is how it appears to behave with PalmOS 3.0.2 and 3.1. Is this a
bug that perhaps is fixed in a later version of PalmOS, or is this is a
misfeature that has persisted all the way through 3.5?
For now, it looks like the only workaround is going to be to export the
address book into CSV format with the sending Palm's Palm Desktop,
whittle the export down to just the desired category, send the
pared-down CSV to the recipient (by e-mail or whatever), who can import
it into his Palm Desktop, and then sync the receiving Palm. Not exactly
as straightforward a solution as beaming was supposed to provide, eh?
Thanks for any info you can provide!
