I think you are confused with "type" and "creator ID". Palm databases have
both. The *creator ID* is what needs to be registered with Palm. I am
unaware of a similar system for database types.
You can use any type you want, but the creatorID should all be the same. I
seem to remember that there are a few types that the backup conduit treats
special, "DATA" I think is one of them. I don't remember what the special
treatment is though :).
It was mentioned previously that lowercase types are reserved for Palm's
use. I haven't heard of this, but it seems to make some sense.
