Databases Deleted when beaming new Application

I've noticed an odd phenomenon,and I'm wondering if anyone on this forum can
shed any light on it:

Often, our associated databases will be deleted by the PalmOS on the
recipient Palm when a copy of our app is beamed.  Why is this happening?
Even more perplexing is that it doesn't happen every time!
