We've just sent this press release out. A thousand apologies to the
Palm development community for not getting this out a long time ago -
the framework, not the press release. We hope that this framework is
useful to anyone creating Palm applications, especially those apps
for use in the enterprise. I'm interested in your feedback. Feel free
to contact me at <mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]>.

BEAR RIVER RELEASES OPEN SOURCE FRAMEWORK FOR DEVELOPING ENTERPRISE
PALM APPLICATIONS

January 23, 2001 - Oakland, CA - Today Bear River Associates released
PAF, a C++ application framework for developing enterprise
applications for the Palm mobile platform. PAF provides a series
classes that simplify the process of developing applications,
especially larger applications for business and government. In
particular it provides support for user interface widgets, streams,
TCP/IP and scanning. The framework is available on an open source
basis at Bear River Associates web site located at
<http://www.bearriver.com>.

Palm applications are becoming larger because the platform is being
applied to more challenging areas than contact and schedule
management. Anthony Meadow, President of Bear River Associates, said
"Bear River is pleased to release this C++ framework on an open
source basis to the Palm developer community. The Palm applications
we're developing are completed in less time, with fewer bugs using
object-oriented programming techniques. Enterprise applications are
often complex, reflecting real-world processes. Palm Computing has
not provided an application framework, so we're making ours available
to everyone."

This framework was developed starting in 1998 and has been used for a
variety of projects. PAF provides the foundation of Expedition
Mobile, a new product from Primavera Systems, Inc. Expedition Mobile
extends the functionality of Primavera Expedition, a robust project
control application, directly to the project site. Expedition Mobile
users are able to update project information from the field with
their Palm OS device and then synchronize project data such as
contacts, action items, punch lists, and material delivery
information bi-directionally with their Primavera Expedition
database. Founded in 1983, Primavera Systems, Inc. is the leading
provider of enterprise and Web-based project management, control and
execution software. PAF helped bring the deep functionality of the
Expedition product to the Palm platform because the programmers could
focus on implementing high-level functions, not on low-level details
of the operating system.

"We are thrilled that Bear River has decided to open source their PAF
framework," said Dr. Alexander Hinds, developer of the award winning
Palm OS utility, BackupBuddy. "This framework will allow developers
to create sophisticated and robust applications in record time by
harnessing the power of C++. I can't recommend it highly enough!"

Bear River used PAF to create the mobile client for YourSherpa.com.

Their shopping solution system greatly simplifies the shopping,
payment and transportation experience for mall customers. YourSherpa
is a spin-off of the Simon Property Group. Simon Property Group,
Inc., headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, is a real estate
investment trust which, through its subsidiary partnerships, is
engaged in the ownership, development, management, leasing,
acquisition and expansion of income-producing properties, primarily
regional malls and community shopping centers. It currently owns or
has an interest in 252 properties.

In an effort to acquaint more developers with the framework and to
encourage additional sample applications, Bear River is sponsoring a
programming contest. Contest entries must be submitted by February
28, 2001. The results of the contest will be announced on March 19,
2001. For details, refer to Bear River's web site at
<http://www.bearriver.com>.
