Closing a pop-up list programatically

My application needs to make sure a pop-up list is not active when it is
switching forms (due to an event).  If the pop-up list is open, how do I
tell it to close.

If the user clicks outside the list, the list closes and I've tried to send
a fake pen down event but it doesn't work.

Anyone have any ideas?
