I'm new to Palm programming, and new to the forums. Please accept my
apologies if this question is in the wrong forum (and let me know the
correct one to use). I read many, many messages on several forums before
subscribing, and this seemed the most appropriate.
I have written a simple VB app which prepares data for a HotSync conduit to
upload to the organizer, and also creates a report with bar codes when the
completed database is sent back to the desktop. The app hacks the users.dat
file in the Palm Desktop install directory to get the valid user directory
names, which works fine now but could be subject to future problems if the
formatting of users.dat changes. Not to mention that I'm sure this approach
is frowned upon by the friendly folks at Palm.
Can someone point me to a good resource which explains how to use
UmGetUserDirectory calls (or the equivalent functionality) in my VB app?
Must I learn C and use the CDK to make this call? UmGetRootDirectory would
be nice to be able to use also.
Thanks for any help you can offer. I'd rather use the recommended approach,
if I can just find out how to do it with VB.
