I've run into a bit of a dilemma. I used different resource names but
identical CreatorIDs for the .prc 's for the two versions of my application.
When I install the new version on a handheld that has the old version on it,
both versions wind up being on the handheld but only the old version is
launch-able from the launcher.
There are three .pdb files associated with my application. They have the
same structure regardless of .prc version. If I tell users to delete the
older version of the app before installing the new version, the .pdb's will
get deleted along with it and the user will have to reinstall them. That's a
step I would like them to avoid having to do.
I'm trying to make the installation as simple and painless as possible for
my customers. So I have come up with the following plan.
Give my new version of the .prc a new CreatorID. That will make it show up
on the launcher. When it is run for the first time, have it change the
CreatorID of the .pdb's to the new CreatorID. Then have it delete the old
.prc file from the handheld.
Anyone see a downside to this? have any other suggestions?
