Ok, so I've made an "App Icon Family" and set the size to 22x22. Now I add
a family member. I set the color depth to 16, set the bitmap ID, and hit
"Create". Why is the newly created bitmap set to 256-color & 16x16 size? I
didn't just add a bitmap resource (where defaulting is understandable), I
created a member bitmap for my bitmap family and all the characteristics
were set up at the family level! Why isn't the "Create" button smart enough
to use those properties?
A second issue: if you paste a higher-color image into a bitmap w/
properties set lower (e.g. paste an 8-bit bitmap into a 16-bit bitmap
resource) constructor will silently promote the resource properties to 8-bit
rather than reduce the color depth of the pasted image. Worse, if you go to
the menu and re-select 4-bit color, the menu obligingly puts the checkmark
back in front of the 4-bit item ... but nothing is _actually_ done to the
image. If you close it and reopen it you will find that it is still
actually 8-bit. Apparently you have to select "recolor with current
palette" to get the darned thing to believe that you really want to reduce
the color depth.
There are just so many extra unnecessary steps required when using this tool
... I shouldn't have to explicitly resize & re-depth each bitmap when it's
been created from a family item that has had the information set. I should
not have to re-depth the bitmap if I (intentionally, or worse accidentally)
paste a higher-depth image into it. And I _really_ shouldn't have to do two
different things to reduce the color depth once it -has- been increased
(without my knowledge). It's like having to say "I want you to do this"
followed by "no, I really mean it".
All of the above with Constructor v1.5b7. I believe that this is still the
latest version?
Is there any possibility that this tool could be made a bit more intelligent
about understanding what the user wants to do?
