Relative to the core Palm bus speed of roughly 14 megabytes/second
thoughput (observed)

The Springboard expansion slot has a tolerable*, but slow transfer rate
of about 1.5 megabytes/second.

SmartMedia cards are also just on the edge of tolerable - while Sandisk
are only about 0.5 MB/second, Lexar makes media that is 1.5 MB/second.

The Sony memory sticks are horrible - 0.25 megabtes/second read and 0.06
megabytes/second write speed - fast only when you compare with the
internet.

=> So now the big question - how fast are Secure Digital cards? They
claim speed is their big asset. <=

Thanks!

* To illustrate "tolerable", a 160 x 160 16-bit display being copied
could achieve less than 15 frames per second at 1.5 megabytes/second.
Of course, you can copy all your data files into "RAM", but that takes
time too: An 8-meg springboard cartridge would take over 5 seconds to
copy into "RAM".
