Was this truncation on both the VII and POSE, or just the VII?  I've
seen issues with the NiCd battery that powers the radio system on the
VII not being able to supply power to handle a long transmission or
receive, and dying around the 10K range -- perhaps this is what you're
seeing.  It recoveres fairly quickly, but its easy to run it down,
requiring one of those famous "recharge" cycles, with a lot of activity.
