In the real world, as the battery is used, the voltage drops. That's how
one knows its time to charge or replace it. The percent SysBatteryInfo
returns is the percentage of power remaining in the battery. I believe its
calculated by matching the battery voltage on a battery 'type' dependent
curve (or Palm could use a calculation) to come up with an estimation of how
much longer the battery may last. Palm doesn't publish the numbers.
[not to bad-mouth your professor...] As I remember from my days in college,
teachers tend to use 'ideal' cases when studying electronics. Your
professor may have been referring to use of an idealized battery that can
provide the necessary current at a steady voltage. You will find that all
real batteries drop in voltage as they are depleted. (I do know of a few
battery chemistries that behave closely to the idealized battery behavior
but still don't maintain a constant voltage during use)
