Title 17, section 401 of the US copyright law only makes provisions for the
official copyright symbol as " the symbol (AF) (the letter C in a circle),
or the word 'Copyright', or the abbreviation 'Copr.';..." not for a 'c'
between two parenthesis.
So if you can't use the official symbol, just the word 'Copyright' is enough
I read somewhere that using '(c)' in your copyright doesn't make it any less
valid but does not adhere to law. Also that using "(c) 2001" is not valid
but "copyright (c) 2001" would be valid since it contains the proper wording
(even though the "(c)" has been added)

ditto (although I don't play one on TV)
