Searching records

Hi.

My database is going to have over 1500 records.
Is there a way I can speed up searching for a specified string in these
records.
DB is sorted.
All I'm doing is qyerying next record looking if it contains specified
string , then next ,next...

Is it possible to heave indexes for DB? like *.ix for dBase?
