Hi There,
This may have to do with how console mode is accessed on a Handspring unit
through the serial port rather than USB. Here's summary of serial debugging
for Visor handhelds...
CodeWarrior can be used to develop and debug applications for Handspring
handhelds. Versions of CodeWarrior prior to release R7 only support
debugging through a serial line. Release R7 supports debugging through USB.
Serial cradles for Handspring handhelds can be purchased at
www.handspring.com, or can often be found at retail locations.
There are several common questions regarding entering "Console mode" on
Handspring handheld to debug using CodeWarrior through a SERIAL cradle:
You must press and hold the "UP" key on the Visor handheld when you initiate
a [shortcut dot dot 2] command to enter Console Mode when using the Code
Warrior debugger. Note that you must continue to press the "UP" key until
your code window actually opens. This can take some time as the code must
first be downloaded to the handheld. Hotsync should also be turned off.
The Palm Knowledge Base contains an article on connecting to the Code
Warrior debugger specifically:
http://oasis.palm.com/dev/kb/faq/1790.cfm
There is also a utility called DebugPrefs.prc that may be useful as well. It
is designed to force a serial or USB connection when using Console Mode. It
can be downloaded here:
http://www.handspring.com/developers/sw_dev.jhtm
On a Macintosh, some developers have used a USB to serial conversion device
for debugging purposes. One of these devices is from Keyspan
(www.keyspan.com).
Hope that helps.

Subject: 1 pc development with 2 handheld?
Hi,
Is it possible for 1 pc development (loaded with 1 code warrior) to have 2
different handhelds? I have this symbol SPT1700 unit and a handspring unit.
I have a symbol SPT1700 unit works just fine when I need to debug my apps.
This unit is hooked in COM1, the setting in CW is also pointing to COM1.
Then, I hooked up my handspring unit to COM2. I would like to
download/debug program into this handspring. I have run the hotsync, it
works fine. But, when I'd like to send my app (debug purpose) to my
handspring from Code Warrior, I have error : failed to connect. I have
setup the configuration in CW into COM2. Anybody knows what's going on
here? Any suggestion?
Thanks in advance,
S Santoso
