BINGO !!

Palm defined th bits and values being stored/accessed in objects for a
reason.  And, if they needed it to control dynamic interaction with the OS
and the application, then there's a good chance the application needs it for
a similar purpose.

Palm did the world a favor with creating the device and the OS.  To short
circuit the potential of the platform by assuming that only
non-sophisticated applications would be built would be a mistake.  I think
they realized that back in 3.0 (?) when the dynamic forms feature was
introduced.  They've come a long way, but until I can touch anything and
everything that won't impact the operation of the OS itself, then they're
not done yet.
