The possibilities are nearly infinite, but one likely cause is that you
aren't handling launch codes properly in your PilotMain. Your app may be
called after a HotSync (for example, if its database has changed). Global
vars aren't available for every launch code. If your app tries to use a
global whenever it is called, you can hang the device.
Another possibility is that the prc file is corrupt. Try dragging it to
Poser and see if you get the same error.
