Actually he uses a palm regulary and graffiti, i did state all the points and told him 
that i didnt want to go against the "Zen of Palm" but he said something about 
policy... bla bla bla.. so i just gave in.  it took less time to implement than it did 
to argue with him.. and when users complain i'll just say its policy :)

Let me guess... director does not personally use a Palm device regularly or
at least does not use Graffiti regularly.  Did you show him the reams of
compelling counter-arguments (well archived here) *against* doing password
input masking?
