Hi Shiram,
We are currently looking into developing for MIDP, but have been a little
put off by what we've found.
Here's a link to the hardware comparison matrix on the PalmOS site.
http://www.palmos.com/dev/tech/hardware/compare.html
This will tell you the heap for each shipping unit, but the amount of that
heap available for a MIDP application is limited by the Java VM. I don't
have an emulator or a 3.5 device with me right now, so I can;'t say for
sure, but the Java VM has a setting which allows the user to allocate more
or less heap to the VM, increasing or decreasing what is available for your
app.
As for application storage, whatever stored apps and databases aren't using
of the 8MB, you can use for application storage. Keep in mind Sun's MIDP
takes over 500k. There's much more detailed memory info on the PalmOS
site.
Please let me know how development of this application goes. MIDP is
something we were looking into and I'd like to hear feedback (on or off
list) from others who have tried it.
There is also a Java for the PalmOS forum, but if the archives on eScribe
are correct, it's not very active.
Hope This Helps,
Ed

Hi
I want to develop MIDP - J2ME applications on Palm.
For this I nees Palm device having os ver 3.5
Can anyone provide me details of Palm5 memory or memory map that would be
avaialble for j2me application development.
I have heard Palm 5 has toatal of 8MB memory.
How is the decomposition of this memory done, I mean:
Memory size for heap?
Memory size for application storage?
Memory size for running applications?
Memory size for RMS?
etc etc
Also if some one would give me information on which modem I need to use
this
device , in order to connect to internet, it would be greatly appreciable.
Since I am working in India, I need to to test my applications by making
wired connections?
I need these details very urgently..
Waiting for a positive reply..
Thanks in advance
Shriram
