FWIW, I believe that's an effect of the general breakage of the dynamic
API's prior to 3.5.3, and not an official requirement. And of course you
don't need to destroy dynamic objects at all if you are just deleting the
whole form.
But in general (IMHO) the dynamic API's are pretty useless prior to 3.5.3
due to the bugs.
