We had some [to some extent] opposing views, each of which is correct. The
bottom line is what Scott says and I fully support it.

Then in the general case, may it be suggested that at least *future* API's do
support NULL for "don't care" for out-parameters where reasonable. Existing
API's sometimes allow it and (obviously) sometimes don't, which can get a
little confusing.

As far as Jim's "wrapper" suggestion goes, I use them all the time BUT
having Palm do the work for us would be nicer.
I think Palm should appoint a team of independent outside "referees" or
"scrutinizers" before the release of each new OS and let them make
suggestions before the new OS is frozen. I'd happily volunteer for text
related stuff.
