To quote Peter Epstein a few hours ago on this forum (see "brightness vs
contrast" thread):

"On grayscale Palm devices, the backlight is not adjustable, but the LCD
itself can be adjusted. The term Contrast is used for this control. On color
Palm devices with backlit screens, the backlight is adjustable, and the LCD
itself is not. The term brightness is used for the backlight adjustment. On
the m505, the LCD is reflective color, so instead of a backlight, you have a
frontlight. On this device, neither the LCD nor the frontlight is
adjustable. Palm hasn't made a device that has both adjustable LCD and
adjustable backlight or frontlight. Also note that the contrast button of
the Palm V series was replaced by an icon in the corner of the silk-screen
on the m100 and m500."

So basically you can turn the frontlight on/off with your application, but
you can't control the brightness of this.

Gavin.

Subject: question regarding brightness control on screen

can anybody help me know if I can control brightness
in an M505 device screen, by writing some external
code? The docs dont seem to have a lot of information
in that regard. can i develop something like, pressing
a button in the form should increase the brightness on
the screen, and pressing another button, should
decrease the brightness.

any reference/suggestion shall be greatly appreciated.

Murali.
