Fine, then require that your application can only be run on
devices with serial numbers.   Your choice!
And since this includes the Symbol 1500, 1700 and 1800's, and most
of the higher end Palm OS units, you are probably not being too 
restrictive.  

Even on a Handspring unit, some of thes Springboard units
(for example the PSC barcode scanner) have serial numbers you can access.

Your decision is whether you can live with the hardware restrictions
of only using units with built in serial numbers.
