If I recall, the IIIx was the first Palm that had any appreciable amount of
streaking, and an OS update reduced the problem somehow. I don't know enough
about the display hardware and the causes of streaking, but I do know that
different monochrome devices use different display hardware with
correspondingly different characteristics. There's nothing like getting your
hands on a real device to see how it looks.

The reason I suggested the Datebook month view is that I remember
experiencing streaking on a IIIx in that form. I think the cause was a long
run of black pixels that doesn't go all the way across the screen,
surrounded by white pixels on all sides. I've tried setting my Vx to use
grayscale all the time, and that produces a bit of streaking on what is
otherwise an excellent display. You might want to allow the user to switch
to black and white as opposed to grayscale. The best thing to do would be to
experiment to see what looks good on the real device.
