What do you people think about all the different "Palm OS" platforms that are popping up? I mean it used to be that you write a program and it pretty much works on any Palm OS platform. Now, there are so many different hardware configurations that its hard to keep up. Maybe I've been living under a rock, but I just found the HandEra. If you ask me, this is what Palm should have started out with. Higher resolution, 'soft' silkscreen. My app could certainly use more screen real-estate (who's couldn't?) but I'm not going to spend the time converting my app to work with the 240x240 screen for one platform. It seems the new Clie uses the same size screen but no soft silkscreen. I don't know, I guess I'm getting annoyed because the thing that separated Palm from Micro$oft was its simplicity. Now everyone is going separate ways with the hardware and patching up the OS to work with it, leaving us programmers with the mess. I almost feel there should be a Palm OS working group that says this is what we are going to do with the OS, this is the hardware we will support, you must make your brand X handheld compliant...just so that there is some degree of uniformity.
