SD memory cards, or for that matter Sony Memory Sticks, Compact Flash cards,
SmartMedia cards, and so on are all effectively litte virtual disk drives
with file systems and everything. They're not memory mapped! Handspring's
Springboard slot is memory mapped. Each approach has it's problems and it's
advantages. One disadvantage of the file system approach is that APIs that
work for apps in memory won't work for apps on cards. That's the way it
goes.
