also, be warned that the UI generates nilEvents so you can't rely on the
fact that every nilEvent you receive will be at the time increment you
specified.  Be sure the check the Tick and/or real time clock count before
performing your task.  You may want to generate nilEvents more frequently
than you actually require or have your event loop check if its time to do
you task after every event received. (one will burn your batteries ever so
slightly more, the second will slightly slow the system).
