If I read the docs for SndSetDefaultVolume and SndGetDefaultVolume
correctly, it just affects the cached values, not the preferences values..
that means that as long as I use SndSetDefaultVolume back to its original
value before exiting, things will be fine. If a reset of any kind happens
while my application has adjusted the sound settings with this function, the
cache is reinitialized from the preferences values.. true?

(Yes, I understand that we should keep a user's preferences settings and not
adjust them for trivial reasons.. this isn't for trivial reasons.. this
particular situation may have 40 versions of this application all running at
the same time in a small room with no other sounds than tapping on Palms..
the clicks just from moving around in the application could be quite
deafening.. /grin).
