ScoutSync is one of three products in the high-end synchronization market. Its from Aether Systems, and is also marketed as HotSync Server. There's NO software compatibility between ScoutSync and HotSync. The other two products are ExtnConnect (marketed by IBM as Jazz) from Extended Systems and Synchrologics' iMobile product. These three products in the high-end synchronization market have substantial per-user licenses fees, but support Enterprise-wide synchronization While the three products are different and incompatible from each other, they mostly provide similiar functionality. And the three companies actively market and support their products, and compete agressively for new business. A fourth product, WaveSync from WaveWare, is substantially compatible with HotSync and supports multiple concurrent connections. While it has the potential of providing a much needed middle-of-the-road synchronization solution, the product has not been updated recently and technical support is limited, though Martha Dennis does try. A fifth product, ManPlatoSync (formerly jSync) has the advantage of being free and being actively developed by Brad Barclay, and also has some degree of IBM activity. However, programming has to be in Java, and you basically have to do your own support though source code is provided! There may be other alternatives to HotSync, but these are the five I've been exposed to.
