You don't need to write your own provider. I tried to write one, but I think some of the libraries necessary are unavailable . . . Don't hold me to that :) . . . I had some problem I ran into which was keeping me from being able to make a provider, and I was told about the IO provider built in to the Network Prefs panel, which works fine so I never finished an IO provider. Go Prefs -> Network -> Options Menu -> View Log. In the log, you can enter a "?" and see a list of all the IO apps that are installed on the device. Your app should show up in the list. You can run the program just like using a command prompt.
