If the same device is being used by many people, it might not last as long as is typical. Palm devices typically last for years.
The first thing to fail for many people is the screen, which can get scratched up from having the stylus grind fine grit under it's tip. The best remedy I've found for this is Klear Screen spray and cloth. This gives the screen a slick protective coating that helps minimize scratches without impairing image quality. In fact, it tends to minimize fingerprints, which improves image quality. However, some people don't like the slick feel for writing Graffiti. If the device is being used with a dedecated application, designing the application to avoid dragging the stylus, and to minimize text entry will help make the screen last longer. Other things that can fail are power buttons, connectors, and such. You might need to clean the contacts if the device lives in a dusty environment. And of course, dropping devices is very common, and can often lead to cracked screens. The m105 is particularly sturdy in this regard.
