but is there any way by which i can trigger an event (or any other form of
trigger mechanism) from the WakeupHandlerProc (after which the handler would
return immediately and safely) and handle that event in some other function
of the shared library?

there are very few functions which *can* be called from within interrupt
handlers (EvtEnqueueKey and EvtWakeup spring to mind...) You may invoke
other routines in your shared library from that callback, provided they
follow the same restrictions.... just be sure to pass a reference to your
shared library globals (or some other state/context information that allows
you to retrieve your shared library reference number, among other things)
when setting up the wake up handler.
