I am trying to connect a Palm 4.x device to a PC using a Serial Manager USB connection to implement a bulk transfer application. I am able to open the port using the following call:
SrmExtOpen(serPortCradleUSBPort, &srmOpenConfig, sizeof(SrmOpenConfigType), &portId); Using USBVerify.exe (a USB connection viewer that comes with the Windows 2000 DDK) I can see the USB port is open. When the Palm opens the USB port, the HotSync USB driver is used. Everything good so far. Now, there is no Palm documentation for the PC which describes how to communicate with the Palm handheld. A USB driver exists (for the HotSync), however numerous attempts at Windows CreateFile, ReadFile, WriteFile have failed to yeild a successful communication. My questions are: 1) Is there documentation on how to communicate over USB from the PC's perspective? 2) Can I use the PC's USB HotSync driver to communicate with the Palm? 3) Are there any IO Control (i.e. DeviceIOControl()) specific to the PC driver? 4) If I have to create a new PC driver, how can the Palm indicate to use my driver, not the HotSync.(I have a Sony, and it has two drivers. However, only the HotSync one opens when SrmExtOpen() is called from the Palm). 5) What is the drvrDataP element within SrmOpenConfigType used for? There is no explaination. In short, Palm 4.x has USB support but there is not enough information to make work.
