The Earthmate should use the Zodiac chipset, which is documented in:

Lon/Lat values for NMEA (degrees/minutes.decimal) is specified on page 54
of the above mentioned document. For the binary protocol, see page 57
(radians). Page 88 gives some additional explanations.
