Yeh, but not that much!
The culprit might be the TCP/IP stack.  
Are you running a 1700 or really running some kind of 174x with
built in radio LAN?

Also what's the memory of the 17xx unit?  Is it  2MB or 8MB?
'Cos if 2MB, the the OS would assign less memory to program heap.
