I haven't heard anything in the week since I posted this, so I'm going
to give it another shot and cross-post to the general developer
forum. Has anyone encountered similar problems getting HostFS to work
in POSE, and if so, does anyone have a solution? Thanks.

Subject: Problems getting HostFS to work

I am having some major difficulties getting HostFS to work properly on
POSE 3.4 under Windows 98 or XP Professional, using the m505 ROM. I'm
using the following procedure to get things up and running:

   1. Start POSE.
   2. Create a new emulator session, using the
      platform41_m505_enUS.rom image.
   3. Install HostFS.prc.
   4. Reset POSE.

After the reset, POSE produces the following error dialog:

UIAppShell (unknown version) called SysFatalAlert with the message:
"HostFS.c, Line:2390, HostFS not configured for full number of
   slots, ignoring extras".

I click the Continue button from here, and things seem to be running
smoothly so far. I'd just ignore this message as spurious, but there
is a bigger problem when I try to mount or unmount a volume through
the Settings -> HostFS menu. After toggling the Mounted check box and
clicking OK in the HostFS Options dialog, POSE spits out the following
error:

<application> (unknown version) just executed an illegal or unknown
machine language instruction. The opcode executed was 0xA0AD.

<application> is the name of whatever application is running in POSE
at the time; it doesn't seem to matter which app is active.
Unfortunately, this error requires a reset. I can't just ignore it,
because the forced reset makes testing card insertion/removal
notification impossible under POSE. I've written code that traps the
sysNotifyVolumeMountedEvent and sysNotifyVolumeUnmountedEvent
notifications.

Interestingly enough, after a forced reset, regular VFS Manager calls
seem to work. I can create, delete, open, read from, and write to
files, and the appropriate changes do show up in the virtual volume
I've mounted; I've tried both c:\PalmDev\pose\HostFS\1 and d:\, both
with the same amount of success.

I've been able to verify that the application handles notification
properly by debugging it in the Sony Clie version of POSE, which
doesn't use HostFS and happens to work perfectly. My Clie PEG-N760C
doesn't have problems with the notification code, either, so this
appears to be a problem solely with HostFS and POSE.

I read through the forum archives, and Bill Andreozzi posted this
exact problem back in mid-December. He, too, had followed the same
series of steps, with the same results, on POSE 3.3. Fortunately for
Bill, these problems magically resolved themselves. Even after
following the HostFS instructions a dozen times, I still get the same
errors.

Could someone offer some ideas why this might not be working? Or if
you're still reading this forum Bill, could you sprinkle a little
pixie dust my way? I could use your good luck about now. :)
