I think you're confused... IrDA does not use NRZ mode; IrDA transmissions occur as bit pulses. On some hardware, it may be possible to program the UART for NRZ protocol while sending/receiving data over the IR port instead of the cradle port, but I don't see how this would benefit you, as it would lead to a greater number of transmission errors.
