Like most Palm OS devices, the m505 shares the UART with both the serial cradle and IR 
ports; only one can be active at a time.

Not sure this is possible either, due to the way the port detection logic works, but 
it's worth a try. You'll need a custom cable with both serial and USB connections to 
start.
