We have an application we are doing for one of the 10 largest corporations in America. The application spec has taken almost a year to finalize.
Now comes the PalmOS 5 simulator(don't tell me how long it's been available, I know. It's irrelevant). The simulator will not allow a modal dialog box to be displayed anywhere except at the bottom of the screen without showing an error. The problem is we have a lot of information we need to show in a active status bar at the bottom of the screen even while a dialog box is open (faked out multitasking). This is the first time a Palm will be used for this purpose and if the Palm platform is to be useful in this application then we've got to make maximum use of the screen. We are already using a context sensitive popup title area. Question is, will the choice of placement of a modal dialog box be limited to the bottom of the screen by not allowing the app to run? Will the user see a message? This type of artifical limitation is one of the things I wrote to the group about in the past asking Palm not to limit the creativity of the developers. The developer knows best what functionality is needed to solve his or her paticular application problem. We need a way around this if the Palm platform is to be useful any ideas would be appreciated.
