The easiest way I have found is to do a WinDrawChars of the value returned by MemHeapFreeBytes in your event loop.
Granted, you are getting the number of bytes free but seeing as the amount of heap on a palm is 256KB (on newer devices) you can do some simple math (ie. subtraction) and get your answer. Use MemHeapSize if you are truly paranoid...
