I'm seeing that using both OS 3.5 and 4.1 devices it the saved preferences are ALWAYS backed up.
I've tried this on devices that have been hard reset and installed specifying a new user when HotSync prompts. I did the hard reset and did not install any programs so as to eliminate any program responding to a the hotsync complete launch code that might influence this. I do nothing in between the HotSyncs. Also every conduit is disabled except the Install conduits and the System conduit. What I'm seeing is that the date/time of the SavedPreference.prc file is updated after each HotSync and doing a binary diff on the different versions shows in fact there are differences in the files. The one thing I did notice is that if the System conduit is configured to do nothing - the saved preferences are not backed up. But this hardly seems like the correct thing, given the fact that the 'Handheld overwrites Desktop' is the default for new users. Anybody else see this?
