Because that's how you cancel a news posting. Unfortunately, even though
the NNTP side of Lyris pretends to be a news server, it ignores the
special qualities of netnews control messages (note the "Control: cancel"
header in Werner's message) and just passes them along to everyone.
Basically trying to cancel a message you've posted to news.palmos.com
doesn't work because the server has already turned it into email and
sent it to everybody on the mail side of Lyris, and there's no way to
recall it. (Perhaps the forum help pages at www.palmos.com should
mention this.)
It's much like the "<foo> would like to recall this message" notes that
Outlook users sometimes send, and non-Outlook users see the note instead
of having their email client act on it behind the scenes.
