You answered your own question in the next paragraph. (BTW - these files are distributed with CodeWarrior. Look for a "Palm Documentation" folder. You probably do want to download the latest versions of everything from PalmSource, however. Be sure to get both versions of the Companion, too.) > I downloaded the "Palm OS Reference.pdf" file, which is great, > but its not quite as convenient to search digitally as the Windows > Help files. Of course it isn't. In an attempt to render the same look on multiple platforms, Adobe had to give up something -- integration with other software took the first hit, and usability took the second hit. (That's just my opinion, other people might actually like pdf documents. My experience is that they are slow, huge, and usually equally UN-readable on every platform.) > Is the Palm OS Reference available in a help file format? > It would be nice if the information in the Palm OS Reference > could be referenced directly through CW, which I guess is what > I'm after. The entire set of documents can be found on the web in HTML format at http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/docs/palmos/ . You can download it all from http://www.palmos.com/dev/support/docs/palmos50-html.zip. You can easily turn these .htm files into .chm files. CW does have a really nice feature that lets you look up the definition of API functions, declared structures, etc. if you know the name. Type in the function name, select it, then type ctrl-' (Ctrl-single quote) and the header file containing the definition will open on the function definition. This is great if you have a vague idea of what you want to do, but don't remember the required parameters. I frequently highlight EventType and open its definition -- who can remember all those union members otherwise? > Lastly, is there a way to shut off the "bang" sound that fires up > every time the CW help menu is accessed? I jump out of my skin > everytime that goes off. I'm using an older version of CW right now, so I don't know. (Plus, since AT&T has started blurting out "A, T & T" on nearly every web page, I've turned my sound off. I guess I'm going to have to get one of those popup ad killers.) </ end of gripe /> __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
