IIIe's have the whack repair method. I found that sometimes the digitizer is
getting pressed on by something else internally. So giving a light whack
against the side fixes it up. My boss used to stuff his IIIe between books
in his travel bag sometimes and then it would get all messed up. We replaced
the digitizer and I took the "dead" one and tested it -- it worked fine in
another "dead" palm IIIe. Swapping the screens back it worked fine.

Subject: IIIe, no digitizer, no use?

Got a bum IIIe at work--dead digitizer, otherwise it looks too nice
to toss. Can't get past the digitizer cal at startup, and it won't
hotsync. Is there anyway to bypass the cal at startup, or maybe a
way to dump it into debug mode? CPU bootloader? Seems like that
there ought to be a way to slam some code into it, somehow...
