Database record UniqueIDs are not totally and permanently unique. 
Search the archives for details.

PS:

I cc'd this to Alan because 95% of my posts since last Thursday have
NOT arrived at palm-dev.  (will this one get through?)  I eventually
receive the following automated response from Yahoo:

This message implies that the relevant DNS server is down.  Who should
I report this to?  (I can't report it to Palm because ALL messages I
send to anything ending in palmos.com fail in the same way.)
