So, your motivation for writing and selling software is to get just 1 person to pay for it? Your unit price must be very high! Maybe I'm just too lazy to create a separate "demo" and "release" version of my programs, but I figure there isn't much difference between having my software cracked the same day its released and having it cracked a few days or a week later. As Aaron's experience demonstrates, you can only slow down the crackers a little. The factors that make the most difference in whether or not people buy your software are 1) the quality of the software, and 2) the quality of the people who are interested in obtaining your software. Criminally minded people will perform criminal acts no matter what you do to protect your software.
