(My full time job is actually in EDA, and the full price of the product I work on is $115K a copy!) > > Maybe I'm just too lazy to create a separate "demo" and "release" > version of my programs, but I figure there isn't much difference > between having my software cracked the same day its released and having > it cracked a few days or a week later. > If it's a really popular program, nothing will help. However, pirates don't pay for programs. Seperate versions makes it tougher for them to get ahold of a copy unless one of them pays for it, or talks someone into giving them a copy. And people who actually pay for palm software through ESD methods generally don't pass their software copies around. This won't stop them, but if you combine it with regular upgrades, they'll usually will be out of date and actually have to work to keep updated. Since many pirates are just "collectors", they'll often just grab one version and then quit. This means that anyone who copies from the pirate will have an out of date version, and may become a potential customer to get an up to date version.
