This is interesting - I didn't realize Constructor did this. I do run CW so
I do HAVE Constructor but I don't actually use it for my bitmaps. I found it
is much easier just to use the PilRC plugin for CW.

It isn't clear to me how I open an existing image in Constructor. When I
click on Bitmaps, it pops up a window that lets me draw my own bitmap, but I
don't see any way to open an existing bitmap file. I think this is a reason
why most game developers went to PilRC - ie so they could work with images
on file rather than having to fight Constructor to load the image.

In any case, I would really prefer to stick with PilRC. If there is some way
in constructor to (a) load an 8 bit color image from file, (b) convert it to
4 bit grayscale, and (c) save it back to a new file, then I could just
continue to use PilRC. If Constructor does this then great. If not, then I'm
really not sure how I would use it.

Is there a conversion utility external to CW that operates on 8 bit files
and outbits 4 bit grayscale files?
